Located in Southern Wood County, 246 miles from Chicago, 158 miles from Milwaukee, and 178 miles from Minneapolis, the Wisconsin Rapids Area is made up of Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, Port Edwards, Nekoosa, and Rudolph.
Wisconsin Rapids itself is located in the middle of the state along the banks of the hardest working river in the country, the Wisconsin River.
Jackson Street Bridge
What happens to people who disagree once in a while but live more or less happily together for years? They get married.
The groom was Grand Rapids, located on the East side of the Wisconsin River. The bride was Centralia, located on the West side. In 1900, a ceremony on the Jackson Street Bridge joining the twin cities brought them together as Grand Rapids. In 1920, the name was changed to Wisconsin Rapids, following years of confusion with several same-named cities.
