Located in Southern Wood County, 246 miles from Chicago, 158 miles from Milwaukee, and 178 miles from Minneapolis, the Wisconsin Rapids Area is made up of Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, Port Edwards, Nekoosa, and Rudolph.
Wisconsin Rapids itself is located in the middle of the state along the banks of the hardest working river in the country, the Wisconsin River.

Next door, at 540 Third Street South, lived Isaac P. Witter. Witter was a banker and major Consolidated Paper stockholder. In 1907, he removed his mother's house and replaced it with the mansion you now see.
Witter's brother-in-law, George W. Mead (President of Consolidated Water and Power & Paper Co.), purchased the house in 1947 and donated it for a library named after another Quality Row resident, T.B. Scott. Since 1907, the residence has been the home of the South Wood County Historical Museum.
