Located in Southern Wood County, 246 miles from Chicago, 158 miles from Milwaukee, and 178 miles from Minneapolis, the Wisconsin Rapids Area is made up of Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, Port Edwards, Nekoosa, and Rudolph.
Wisconsin Rapids itself is located in the middle of the state along the banks of the hardest working river in the country, the Wisconsin River.
Trumpeter Trail
The Trumpeter Trail is located in Southwestern Wood County, approximately 17 miles West of Wisconsin Rapids on County Highway X. The entrance to the trail can be found just insde of the Sandhill Wildlife Area.
The trail is a 14 mile one-way nature drive. Along the drive, you'll see trumpeter swans, snow geese, bison, and deer. Although they are seldom seen, there are also wolves and coyotes in the area.
Plan on taking an SUV, truck, or other heavy duty vehicle, as parts of the drive include gravel roads. Admission is free, although donations are accepted. Guide booklets are available at the tour entrance.
