Located in Southern Wood County, 246 miles from Chicago, 158 miles from Milwaukee, and 178 miles from Minneapolis, the Wisconsin Rapids Area is made up of Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, Port Edwards, Nekoosa, and Rudolph.
Wisconsin Rapids itself is located in the middle of the state along the banks of the hardest working river in the country, the Wisconsin River.
Sandhill Wildlife Area
Sandhill Wildlife Area is located in Southwestern Wood County, approximately 17 miles West of Wisconsin Rapids on County Highway X.
The area offers an outdoor skills center (classes are held throughout the year; visit the area for a schedule of events), captive bison herd, observation towers, hiking, camping (at the nearby Wood County Wildlife Area), and hunting.
The wildlife area is also the entrance to The Trumpeter Trail. Admission to the wildlife area is free, although donations are accepted.
