Located in Southern Wood County, 246 miles from Chicago, 158 miles from Milwaukee, and 178 miles from Minneapolis, the Wisconsin Rapids Area is made up of Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point, Port Edwards, Nekoosa, and Rudolph.
Wisconsin Rapids itself is located in the middle of the state along the banks of the hardest working river in the country, the Wisconsin River.
Only three fruits are native to North America: the cranberry, the blueberry, and the Concord Grape. The cranberry is Wisconsin's number one fruit crop, and many marshes throughout the state have been producing cranberries for well over 100 years. Wisconsin produces more cranberries than other other U.S. state, and the cranberry marshes near Wisconsin Rapids play a vital role in keeping the state an industry leader.
You can view the cranberry harvest every year during the month of October by taking a self-guided auto tour on state and county highways throughout South Wood County. This 50-mile long tour offers an up close view of the cranberry harvest. For two-wheel travelers, the Cranberry Trail marks out a 24 to 53 mile long bike route on area back roads (some of which are not paved) in the same area.
If you plan to tour the area, please make plans to do so prior to October 26, as most of the fruit has been harvested by that time.
